NES, Smash, and Persona Q 3DS XLs announced ⊟
Nintendo of America announced three (!) special edition 3DS XLs today! The Smash Bros. system releases in red and blue on September 19, the NES edition hits on October 10, and the Persona Q portable comes out on November 25.
Please note that all of them are priced at $199.99 and do not include a bundled game, even though two of them are branded with specific titles. Also, all of them will be exclusive to GameStop. Ughhhhhhhhhhh.
My Neighbor Totoro 3DS XL pouch ⊟
Ahhhh that lining with the soot sprites! Too cute! This is a custom-made case from Sableye (the Tumblr, not the Pokémon), who will make you a pouch for the right price!
The 3DS just got a lot more customizable ⊟
Nintendo really gave the 3DS a facelift! The new standard models (not the XL editions unfortunately) coming to Japan will allow users to swap out its bottom and top covers with various designs, making it so they don’t have to buy limited edition hardware or apply decals just to get a new look for your system. You can see all the designs announced so far here.
Not only that, Nintendo announced new Home menu themes (e.g Animal Crossing, Zelda, Mario) with special backgrounds, icons, folders, music, and sound effects are coming next month with a system update — this will be for all 3DSes and 2DSes, presumably including the new hardware!BUY Nintendo 2DS & 3DS/XL, upcoming games
New Nintendo 3DS and XL ⊟
Just when you thought this week couldn’t get any wilder, Nintendo goes and reveals a new 3DS and XL model for Japan. Europe will also receive the new portables next year, according to CVG. If we get a U.S. release date, I expect it to be for 2015.
The new line also has a new stick-ish button on the right side that replaces the need for a Circle Pad Pro, a more powerful CPU, improved 3D viewing angles, Super Famicom-esque colored ABXY buttons, two additional shoulder buttons, NFC support (for Amiibos!), improved battery life (up to 6 hours on 3DS, 7 hours on XL), and HTML5 support for the built-in browser. It also now uses Micro SDs instead of SD cards. Check out the removable back!
The standard system features a 3.88-inch top screen (compared to the 3.53-inch top screen in the original 3DS), while the new XL screen is the same as the old one at 4.88 inches. Both release in Japan on October 11, alongside new charging docks. The standard edition 3DS comes in White or Black for ¥16000 ($154), while the XL in Metallic Blue or Black will go for ¥18800 ($181).BUY Nintendo 2DS & 3DS/XL, upcoming games
Gametech’s new series of “WaSaBi” 3DS cases. These all feature transparent cases to allow your 3DS’s color to show beneath the traditional Japanese designs. As always with WaSaBi, they’re really pretty. The option to let my blue 3DS show through might make these my favorite yet.
Although, of course, it would look weird on top of my Slime-faced 3DS.
Nintendo DS Micro
Made Leighton McDonald
THIS IS FAN MADE
“For this project, I’m redesinging the Nintendo 2DS. Some features will be stripped, like the 3D cameras at the back, for size reduction and pricing goals. I want to make this the Gameboy Micro of the DS family. It’s smaller than a Galaxy Note 2, but large enough for pleasent sized screens; making it the most pocketable DS on the market. “
3DS, Vita stretch goals for Omori ⊟
Omori, the dreamy, Earthbound-esque RPG by artist OMOCAT (with music by Slime Girls and Space Boyfriend whoaaaa) could come to 3DS and Vita, if the project raises enough on Kickstarter! I want to play that, and I have those, and I like to write about those, so yeah!
It’s at just about $71,000 right now, but needs to be at $180,000 for 3DS and $250,000 for Vita. Maybe… maybe the possibility of playing it on one of those handhelds will entice more people to pledge…

Bravely Default 3DS XL cases, preorders open ⊟
I was checking to see if Amazon had Bravely Default available to preorder yet, and indeed the site has finally added the 3DS JRPG. You can reserve the Collector’s Edition (includes the game, an art book, a soundtrack CD, and 34 AR cards) now too for $49.99, which is actually $5 cheaper than what GameStop is asking for.
While rummaging the site for those links, I also spotted these neat 3DS XL cases, which are available for $11 before third-party shipping. AFter reading Simon Parkin’s review for Bravely Default, I really can’t wait until this comes out here (February 7)!PREORDER Bravely Default, upcoming games

This sure is something I use everyday though. Between homework or favorite TV shows I’m trying to hunt for shiny Pokemon. It’s a device that I’ve become very much attached to, and it holds a significant value to me, as my boyfriend got it for me before he went off to college.
Please don’t charge your 3DS like this ⊟
That thing looks so close to breaking from the charge cable and falling to its doom. And then what will you play Pokemon or the new Zelda on?
Ry-Spirit explains, “God knows why theres a wall socket that’s so freakin high in this hotel room. Anyway I had to use it. No choice.” But isn’t that another outlet near the baseboard?! I presume the one up there is typically used for some kind of light fixture — even with the chair, how the hell did he reach up that high to plug in the charger?
